Remembering Mumbai

(Ajit Solanki/AP)

I always feel the most moved by the children affected by tragedy. In the crises in Myanmar and China this year, it was the images of the children that brought tears to my eyes. Kids crying, scooped up by their mothers, or carried out limp from one calamity or another. Or crying for their mothers, now gone. This year, tragedy has struck people on multiple occasions, while we (in the U.S., mostly) celebrate one holiday or another. We celebrated Mother's Day in the wake of Cyclone Nargis. And we prepared for the Olympic games, a devastating earthquake hit Sichuan, China. On this Thanksgiving day, my heart is with the people in Mumbai, still in the midst of chaos.

Give thanks for peace. We are in the midst of an economic crisis, but most of us still have a lot to be thankful for.
